In the country
In the country people can still exchange services with vegetables. The old neighbor living next door to my host family had actually known nothing except tending his farm. He therefore had to ask help from the Monsieur to help him on electricity, moving things, oil and gas, some trivialities in life. To exchange his service, the farmer brought in vegetables not sold of the day at the market to Monsieur and Madame as a contribution. He also keeps a hedge gate unlocked so they can come in any time to take a part of his crops, which I suppose they never do.
